Iowa farmers met Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Trade Representative Katherine Tai and Rep. Cindy Axne near Woodward, Iowa, and asked for tariff relief on imported fertilizers.
Farmers said input costs are up sharply, and three farm groups had earlier asked for removal of tariffs on Moroccan potash.
Possible tariff removal on potash or nitrogen imports would lower fertilizer costs for corn and soybean growers, which could shift planted acreage and future corn supply, but no decision has been made.
