Sri Lanka's Ministry of Agriculture said USAID has agreed to supply 36,000 metric tons of triple super phosphate fertilizer for paddy cultivation, to be issued free to farmers. The minister noted that procuring TSP has been difficult because the product is largely sourced from Ukraine and Russia, and that the country's economic crisis has constrained fertilizer imports.
A donor-funded aid shipment is small relative to global phosphate trade, so the price effect is minimal. It does underline tight supply from Russia and Ukraine for phosphate fertilizers.
