Statistics Canada reports that combined farm and commercial oat stocks at July 31, 2023 were 1.3 million tonnes, nearly four times the level a year earlier. The increase followed higher 2022 production, and oat exports rose 16.2% to 2.7 million tonnes over the same period.
Much larger Canadian oat supplies ease tightness in the feed oat market and weigh on farm prices. The rebuilt stocks reduce the scarcity premium that built up after the 2021 drought-driven low.
After 72 past bearish report events, OATS moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (50% higher; middle half -3.7% to +3.8%), and -2.5% over 20.
