An oats expert told the Croposphere conference in Saskatoon that higher seeded oat acreage this spring will increase supply and dampen prices. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada estimated a 9% rise in oat acres to 3.39 million, the largest since 2008, partly from unharvested canola being reseeded to oats.
Larger Canadian oat plantings point to ample supply and softer feed oat prices this year, though long-term demand growth is expected.
