The Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) published its new monetary and foreign exchange policy framework on December 12, setting out a transition away from current capital controls toward a unified exchange market. It also outlined a goal of fiscal balance in 2024 and correction of relative prices, including the official exchange rate of ARS 800 per dollar.
Removing capital controls and unifying the exchange rate changes the incentive for Argentine farmers to sell grain and oilseeds, which can shift export flows of soybean products, corn and wheat. Fiscal consolidation and a weaker peso also affect the cost base of Argentine crushers.
