Corn futures fell on June 28 after USDA's Acreage report showed 91.475 million planted acres, 1.44 million above the March intentions and 1.1 million above trade expectations. The quarterly Grain Stocks report put June 1 corn stocks at 4.993 billion bushels, near the top of the trade range and 890 million above a year earlier.
July, September and December contracts settled 10 to 16.5 cents lower.
Larger acreage and higher carryover expectations add supply and weigh on feed corn prices, which feeds into lower corn costs for buyers. Traders will watch the next USDA yield estimate for any change in the bearish balance.
After 1,102 past bearish report events, Corn moved a median -0.2% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -1.8% to +1.3%), and +0.0% over 20.
