USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced a strategy of up to $1 billion to curb highly pathogenic avian influenza and lower egg prices. The plan includes $500 million for biosecurity, $400 million in farmer relief, and $100 million for vaccine research and other measures.
It also covers expanded wildlife biosecurity assessments and possible temporary imports.
The funding targets the disease that has cut layer numbers, so it could eventually restore flock size and feed demand. Near-term effects on feed prices are limited because implementation will take time.
