The Roller Flour Millers Federation asked the Indian government to raise wheat buffer stocks to about 18 million tonnes at the start of the season, roughly 140% above the current 7.5 million tonne norm. The federation also urged free wheat product exports, GST relief on flour, and noted possible sowing delays in Punjab due to floods.
A larger government buffer would mean more state procurement and tighter domestic supply for wheat, supporting Indian prices. The proposal is a request and has not been adopted, so its market effect is limited for now.
After 137 past neutral policy events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median -0.4% over 5 sessions (43% higher; middle half -1.9% to +1.2%), and +0.3% over 20.
