Reuters reports that Australia raised its wheat production forecast by about 1.8 million tonnes to 35.6 million tonnes in the ABARES December quarterly report. The agency also lifted barley to 15.7 million tonnes and canola to 7.2 million tonnes.
The revisions were attributed to timely spring rain and mild temperatures in most cropping regions.
A larger Australian harvest adds to abundant global supply and competes with other grain exporters for Asian demand, which weighs on wheat prices. Barley and canola prices are more supported by their own fundamentals.
After 1,006 past bearish report events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median +0.0% over 5 sessions (50% higher; middle half -1.6% to +1.8%), and +0.3% over 20.
