The Indian government may consider allowing exports of wheat grain, according to officials cited by the Times of India. FCI wheat stocks are 25.9 MT against a January 1 buffer requirement of 13.8 MT, and the 2025/26 sown area is a record 33.4 million hectares.
An inter-ministerial decision is expected soon.
If India allows grain exports, it could add meaningful supply to a world market that has been supplied by Russia and others. Traders would likely see this as bearish for export prices, but the proposal is not yet approved.
After 122 past bearish policy events, WHEAT moved a median -0.3% over 5 sessions (44% higher; middle half -1.9% to +1.2%), and +0.4% over 20.
