India announced on February 13 that it would allow exports of 2.5 million tonnes of wheat and 0.5 million tonnes of wheat products, the first relaxation since the May 2022 ban. Officials said the decision reflects lower domestic prices and better supply.
A formal DGFT notification was due the following Monday.
Ending the four-year export ban opens a new source of wheat supply, which may pressure world wheat prices, though the volume is limited. Traders will assess how much of the quota is actually shipped.
