France announced up to 145 million euros in nitrogen fertilizer aid on July 9, alongside a 2 billion euro industrial program to reduce reliance on imported nitrogen. Granular urea rose about 8% to roughly 495 euros per ton fca on the announcement, as farmers accelerated purchases.
The aid is funded mainly by an EU crisis reserve release.
The aid accelerates European urea buying and supports nitrogen prices during the purchase window, which runs to late September. Lasting import-substitution investment could eventually reduce Europe's dependence on imported urea.
After 129 past bullish policy events, Urea moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (47% higher; middle half -1.3% to +2.3%), and +1.4% over 20.
