USDA Undersecretary for Trade Luke Lindberg said trade talks with Mexico have been productive but are more complicated with Canada. He cited a US agricultural trade deficit of $17.5 billion with Mexico and over $11 billion with Canada.
The administration declined to extend USMCA on July 1, and Lindberg said the goal is to expand U.S. market access.
Ongoing USMCA uncertainty, with Mexico and Canada together taking about a third of U.S. farm exports, adds risk to export demand for grains, oilseeds and livestock products. Progress toward a deal would support prices, while a breakdown would pressure them.
