China reinstated soybean import licences for three US companies from 10 November, following recent talks that also led to limited Chinese purchases of US soybeans and wheat. Panamax vessels loading US soybeans have largely avoided the Panama Canal in favour of the Cape of Good Hope route, and the Canal's soybean transits remain far below earlier years.
Renewed licences and gradual purchases support US soybean export demand and point toward a fuller resumption of trade, which would be bullish for soybeans and soy meal. Longer Cape routings raise ocean freight costs for US bulk exports.
