Indonesia extended its zero export levy on crude palm oil and derivatives, starting November 1, 2022, after a Palm Oil Plantation Fund steering committee meeting on October 31. The exemption remains until the CPO reference price is at or above US$800 per metric ton.
The government said the policy exists because the biodiesel market index price is still below the diesel price, so biodiesel subsidies are not yet paid out.
The zero levy keeps Indonesian palm oil export costs low, which supports export competitiveness and palm oil prices. Biodiesel demand that the government is trying to stimulate would also support domestic and global vegetable oil prices if it grows.
After 548 past bullish policy events, PALMOIL moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -0.7% to +2.1%), and +0.9% over 20.
