Felda chairman Ahmad Shabery Cheek said Malaysia's biodiesel mandate increase from B10 to B15, effective June 1, will reduce the country's reliance on export markets. He said palm oil use for biodiesel could eventually rise to five to six million tonnes a year.
Malaysia's 20 biodiesel plants are currently operating below capacity.
A larger domestic biodiesel share would absorb palm oil that would otherwise be exported, supporting prices and reducing exposure to export conditions. Actual price impact depends on how fast the mandate is enforced.
After 548 past bullish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (61% higher; middle half -0.7% to +2.1%), and +0.9% over 20.
