Conab's December report raised Brazil's soybean area by 400,000 acres to 107.2 million acres while trimming projected soybean yield to 52.5 bushels per acre. Corn yield was cut by nearly 0.5 bushels per acre to 89.5, lowering Brazil's total corn production by about 600,000 tons to 125.8 million tonnes.
Most of the corn reduction came from the first crop, mainly in Rio Grande do Sul.
A smaller Brazilian corn estimate reduces export supply from a major competitor, which is mildly supportive for corn prices. The soybean area increase partly offsets the yield cut.
After 1,040 past bullish report events, Corn moved a median +0.5% over 5 sessions (62% higher; middle half -0.9% to +2.0%), and +0.8% over 20.
After 563 past neutral report events, Soybeans moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (48% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.6%), and -0.1% over 20.
