Brazil's IBGE first 2018 harvest estimate puts grain output at 220.2 million metric tons, 8.9% below the 2017 estimate of 241.6 million. The decline is mainly in corn (14.3 million tons) and soybeans (7.2 million tons) due to less favorable climate than the prior season.
A smaller Brazilian crop tightens export supplies of corn and soybeans, supporting prices for soybeans, corn and soybean meal. Delayed planting also threatens the second-crop corn window.
