CME live cattle closed mostly lower on December 22 after USDA's Cattle on Feed report showed more cattle entering feedlots in November than a year earlier. Cash cattle in the Plains traded $119-$120/cwt, supported by tight supplies and holiday grocery buying, while November cold storage beef stocks fell 4% month over month.
Heavier feedlot placements signal more cattle to feed in the near term, supporting feed grain demand, but the bearish report pressured futures.
