The US dollar closed at BRL 3.812 on June 14, up 2.64%, its sharpest daily rise in 13 months. The move followed news that the European Central Bank would end its bond purchase programme at the end of 2018.
It also came as the Brazilian Central Bank ended its USD 20 billion swap auctions, which had been designed to curb the dollar's rise.
A sharp weakening of the real raises the dollar cost of Brazilian feed imports and can make Brazilian soybean and corn exports more competitive, shifting global feed trade flows and prices.
