CoBank analysis finds US farmers and ranchers, not foreign importers, paid most of the cost of retaliatory tariffs on 11 agricultural commodities. Sorghum to China lost 100% of its value year over year, soybeans to China lost 98%, and cotton to China lost 48%.
Lost Chinese demand for US sorghum and soybeans reduces export outlets and pressures US prices. CoBank warns that longer tariffs let competitors take market share permanently.
