European natural gas futures spiked above 300 euros/MWh after the invasion and stayed above 100 euros/MWh through March. They fell to 95.62 euros/MWh on April 14, the lowest since February 24, but fertilizer production costs remain elevated.
Gas is the main input for nitrogen fertilizer, so volatile European gas keeps nitrogen and phosphate costs high and supports fertilizer-driven feed grain costs.
