Drought and heat waves in southern Brazil have caused losses exceeding $9.2 billion across more than 195,000 farms, mainly in Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Parana. Soybean output for 2021/22 is estimated at 122.4 million tons, down 11.4% year on year, while total grain production is still forecast up 5.4%.
A roughly 11% cut in Brazilian soybean output removes meaningful supply from world markets, lifting soybean meal and corn prices and raising feed costs for buyers.
