Soybean oil broke out to contract highs in May on strong exports and optimism over biofuel blending mandates, then fell sharply in a series of selloffs since the May 14 high. The selloffs were attributed to rumors that EPA would grant a mass of Small Refinery Exemptions for more than 160 applications, which EPA has repeatedly denied.
Biofuel policy headlines on small refinery exemptions can swing domestic demand for soybean oil sharply, and the analyst sees bullish potential if buyers return, which would support soybean oil and crush margins for soymeal.
