Grain vessel loading at US Gulf and PNW ports stayed relatively strong in October and November, with an average of 36 ocean-going grain vessels loaded per week in the Gulf. Ocean freight for bulk grain to Japan averaged $48.38 per mt from the Gulf and $26.81 per mt from the PNW in November, both about 7% above third-quarter levels.
Steady vessel demand and firmer freight rates indicate tight shipping capacity, which supports higher delivered costs for US grain exports.
