The weekday morning note for feed buyers: price moves, the news behind them and what to watch. RSS
DAILY BRIEF ·
Soybean meal slips to $392/mt and template feed costs keep sliding, but Argentine port strike and heavy fund length in meal add two-way riskFeed ingredient prices were mostly steady to mixed: corn -0.2% at $217.45/mt, soybeans +1.2%, soybean meal -0.3%, and least-cost formulas are down 0.1-0.5% on the week and 1.0-4.4% over four weeks. Overnight news centres on an indefinite customs-broker strike at Buenos Aires port terminals, Brazil's fast soybean planting, and sharply weaker hogs and live cattle. Energy remains elevated (Brent $114, diesel $4.63/gal), keeping freight and fat costs in focus.
DAILY BRIEF ·
Corn and meal edge up while least-cost feed formulas hold near 4-week lows; wheat firms on India export-curb talk and Black Sea riskMarkets were mostly quiet on Monday: corn +0.3%, soybean meal +0.2%, soybeans -0.2% and soybean oil -0.1%, with SRW wheat at 86% of its 52-week range. Wheat is the firmest feed grain on reports India is weighing export curbs, and Black Sea and Hormuz shipping risks remain in the background. Template feed costs are up 0.1-0.2% this week but still 2-5% below four weeks ago.
DAILY BRIEF ·
Soybean meal and corn slip, cutting least-cost feed formulas about 2% this week, while diesel and freight risk stay highBenchmarks were mostly quiet at the Oct 30 close. Soybean meal fell 1.1% and corn 0.5%, which pulled this week's template feed costs down roughly 1-2.7% across species and about 3-5% over four weeks. Energy stays expensive (Brent +85% y/y), and funds remain heavily long soy complex, so some price risk remains despite the easing.
DAILY BRIEF ·
Corn sits in the lower third of its 52-week range at 449.5¢ while crude holds above $100 on Iran risk into next week's midtermsGrains were mixed and quiet: corn -0.4% to 449.5¢, soybean meal -0.2% to $328.5/st, soybeans +1.1% to 1,233.5¢, and wheat steadied after a ninth weekly loss. The bigger moves are outside the feed grains. Crude stays near five-month highs on reports of possible US strikes on Iran after Tuesday's midterms, hogs hit a contract low, and fishmeal sits at a 52-week high. Funds remain very long soymeal, which leaves the meal market exposed to liquidation.
DAILY BRIEF ·
Soybean meal at $334.80 sits mid-range, but managed money holds a 99th-percentile net long, so the downside risk is a fund exit rather than fundamentalsGrains were quiet: corn edged up 0.2% to 452.5¢ and soybeans rose 0.6%, while meal slipped 0.3% and soyoil fell 1.1% as crude eased on Iran diplomacy. Speculators cut corn length sharply in the week to Oct 20, but stayed near record long in soybeans and meal. Energy remains elevated, keeping freight and fat costs high, while lean hogs hit a fresh 52-week low.
