The American Soybean Association warns that proposed Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs could prompt Chinese retaliation targeting U.S. soybeans. China buys roughly a third of U.S. soybeans, valued above $14 billion.

Explicit Chinese retaliation threats against soybeans raise the risk of lost export demand and downward pressure on soybean and meal prices. Competing Brazilian and Argentine supply would likely fill any gap.
