India's rice exports fell 29% in August to 644,249 tonnes, with shipments down 27% over the first five months of the 2019/20 season. Weak African demand for non-basmati rice and Iran pausing basmati purchases were cited as reasons.
Lower Indian export demand, the largest rice exporter, is bearish for global rough rice prices while buyers are supplied from other origins.
