Attacks on ships, ports and export terminals in the Black Sea have surged, with Ukraine recording 35 attacks on vessels in port and 22 at sea in July. Ukraine has also targeted tankers in Russia's oil trade, and the region is adding to disruptions already caused by Middle East shipping routes.
Disruption to shipments from two major grain exporters tightens global wheat and corn supplies and raises freight and insurance costs. Attacks on tankers also add risk premium to crude oil.
