S&P Global Commodity Insights estimates the war will remove large volumes of Black Sea wheat and corn from the market in 2021/22 and 2022/23. Lost Ukrainian wheat export potential is put at 5 to 7 million tonnes, and lost corn exports at 10.5 to 21 million tonnes.
Russian wheat losses are also expected, and the analyst does not rule out larger losses.
Lost export volumes from the Black Sea tighten exportable supply for importers. This supports wheat and corn prices through the coming seasons.
