Indonesia plans to raise its biodiesel blend to B40 with a target implementation date of July 2021, according to Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto. Pertamina has also produced a first batch of 100% palm-based biodiesel at its Dumai refinery, and the EU plans to phase out palm-based biodiesel for transport.
A B40 mandate would significantly increase domestic palm oil use for biofuel, tightening exportable supply and supporting palm oil prices, while EU phase-out plans weigh on long-term export demand.
