Spring grain planting is progressing well in western Europe, with 90% of expected French spring barley area sown by March 8, far ahead of last year's 33%. German spring sowings are also advancing in generally favourable weather.
Planted area is expected to fall from last year's high levels.
Fast planting and a smaller spring barley area point to lower barley output, but favourable weather offsets this. Shifts toward corn and vegetables could tighten corn supplies later in the year.
