India has not yet endorsed the G-33 group's WTO proposal on permanent public stockholding, though it agrees subsidies should be unlimited. Sources say India objects to the clause barring exports from procured stocks, which could hurt its wheat and rice export drive.
The proposal will be discussed at a WTO Committee on Agriculture meeting.
If India keeps freedom to export from subsidised public stocks, it preserves a potential source of wheat and rice supply to world markets, a bearish factor for export prices.
