The Forest Peoples Programme says the Commission's 17 November deforestation proposal is ambitious but has gaps on human rights and indigenous land tenure. It covers cattle, palm oil, soy, wood, cocoa and coffee.
The proposal's scope on any deforestation, not just illegal clearing, could tighten EU sourcing of soy and palm oil, though the rights critique does not itself change near-term supply.
