The EU agreed a law that would block imports of soy, beef, palm oil, wood, cocoa and coffee, plus derived products such as leather, chocolate and furniture, if linked to deforestation. Importers must show where and when the commodities were produced and provide verifiable evidence that the land was not deforested after 2020.
Traceability requirements could restrict EU-bound soy and palm oil supplies that cannot be verified, shifting trade flows. That may soften EU import demand and prices for these oilseeds.
