EU countries approved a one-year delay to the EU Deforestation Regulation, which would ban imports of cocoa, palm oil and other commodities linked to forest destruction. Foreign exporters would still need to provide due diligence statements proving their products did not contribute to deforestation.
Postponing the rules keeps EU access open for soy and palm oil from South America and Southeast Asia for longer, which could ease near-term import demand pressure and weigh modestly on prices.
