Commentator Kevin Hursh says bulk grain ships continue to be serviced on the West Coast during the Vancouver port strike, while container shipments of pulse crops, specialty crops and fertilizer are bottlenecked. CP rail is performing well while CN is falling behind on filling orders.
Stuck container flows of pulses and fertilizer raise local input costs and delay exports, but bulk grain movements are protected, limiting the effect on feed grain prices.
