Indonesian palm oil associations urged the government to adopt pro-industry policies amid global economic recession and trade barriers. They cited a WTO dispute (WT/DS 593) against the EU's RED II, which is stalled because the WTO appellate body lacks arbitrators.
Global vegetable oil output in the first quarter fell about 2% to around 58 million tonnes.
Weaker global demand and EU biofuel barriers limit export outlets for palm oil, which is bearish for prices. Lower vegetable oil output partly offsets that pressure.
