Ukraine’s National Bank estimates that maritime route blockades and limited alternative transport capacity could cost the agricultural sector about $4.6 billion in export revenue in the second half of 2026. Alternative routes carried 2.7 million tonnes in September, but Danube ports and railways cannot fully replace seaborne capacity, while higher logistics costs weaken the competitiveness of Ukrainian grain and oilseed exports.
The bank’s baseline assumes the blockade will continue through the first half of 2027.
Reduced export capacity and higher transport costs constrain Ukrainian supplies reaching world markets, lending support to grain and oilseed prices. The impact is tempered by cargo being redirected through alternative routes.
