India ordered rice and paddy traders, retailers, processors and millers to report stocks weekly from November 6, 2026. It also allowed five southern states to impose stock limits through January 31, 2027, and doubled its 2026–27 target for open-market rice sales to 5 million tonnes amid rising prices and an uneven monsoon.
Higher government sales increase rice available in the market and could temper price gains. Stock limits may constrain private inventories in the five states, but the expanded sales target is the clearer near-term supply effect.
After 100 past bearish policy events, Rough Rice moved a median -0.1% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.7% to +1.6%), and +0.1% over 20.
