US natural gas prices fell more than 6% to $3.01 per mmBtu on July 9, 2026, the lowest in six weeks. Freeport LNG maintenance starting July 10 and a storage build of 61 bcf, above the five-year average of 51 bcf, drove the decline.
Forecasts still called for above-normal temperatures through July 23.
Reduced LNG export demand during maintenance and ample storage weigh on prices, while hot weather supports gas burn for power. The net effect is pressure on natural gas prices in the near term.
After 29 past bearish logistics events, NATGAS moved a median -9.8% over 5 sessions (21% higher; middle half -20.0% to -3.1%), and -16.6% over 20.
