South Africa reduced wholesale diesel prices by about R1.10–R1.20 per litre from November 4, as a temporary fuel levy cut took effect. The lower levy is scheduled to shrink in December, while a weaker rand, higher international product prices and an increased slate levy limited the reduction.
The levy relief lowers near-term diesel costs for transport and agricultural logistics, but currency weakness and tight global supply may constrain the benefit. South African diesel prices are pressured upward by the higher international costs, partly offset by the tax cut.
After 21 past bearish policy events, ULSD / Diesel moved a median -2.4% over 5 sessions (38% higher; middle half -6.5% to +4.7%), and -1.1% over 20.
