Independent truckers ended their strike at facilities serving Chile’s San Antonio port after reaching an agreement with cargo-generating companies that raises transport rates by 8%. The blockade had disrupted fruit logistics and forced the cancellation of the ceremony marking the start of Chile’s cherry export season to China.
Ending the blockade should ease container movement and reduce the immediate risk of fruit-export delays, although the higher transport rates increase logistics costs. The agreement may help normalize port flows during the export season.
