Unifor issued a 72-hour strike notice on behalf of about 200 container truckers at two carriers serving the Port of Vancouver, with a walkout set for Friday. Talks with Aheer and Prudential had failed to produce new agreements over health benefits and detention pay.
The port was already dealing with over 50 ships waiting to dock after the rail outages.
A strike would have added to the port's existing backlog, delaying grain and oilseed shipments and raising freight costs. Because the threat was later resolved, the price effect was limited.
