The EU Deforestation Regulation is scheduled to apply generally from December 30, 2026. A September 2026 delegated regulation removes some products from the scope, adds instant coffee, selected palm oil derivatives and frozen bovine tongues from December 30, 2027, and specifies exemptions for certain goods and uses.
The changes affect which goods require deforestation due diligence to enter or leave the EU, potentially raising compliance costs and influencing trade flows for covered products. Palm oil derivatives newly added to the rules could face additional documentation and sourcing requirements.
After 400 past bearish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and +0.2% over 20.
