Indonesia’s combined export duty and levy on crude palm oil fell 20% in November to $246.36 per tonne, from $308.27 in October, while the reference price declined 6.07% to $978.90 per tonne. Analysts said lower charges leave exporters with more proceeds, but the effect on foreign exchange depends on whether B50 biodiesel use saves more dollars in diesel imports than it costs in foregone palm oil exports.
Lower export charges may encourage palm oil exports and support prices, but diversion of oil into biodiesel could tighten export availability. The rupiah benefit depends on the balance between export receipts and diesel-import savings.
