US gasoline futures rose more than 6 to 7 percent to $1.7799 a gallon, the highest since July 2015, when markets opened after Harvey flooded Houston and shut refineries. Gasoline margins jumped as much as 18.2 percent.
Refinery shutdowns cut product supply and widen refining margins, which lifts fuel prices. Gasoline is not a feed input, so the direct effect on feed commodities is limited.
