Malaysian planter SD Guthrie is seeking a temporary waiver of crude palm oil export duties to help clear a growing supply overhang. Malaysia’s September palm oil stocks rose 31.9% month on month to about 2.16 million tonnes, while production increased and exports declined; benchmark prices were also lower.
A waiver would reduce the cost of Malaysian palm oil exports and could improve overseas demand, helping draw down stocks. The prospect of more competitive export supply is bearish for palm oil prices.
After 400 past bearish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and +0.2% over 20.
