China's National Development and Reform Commission and other departments introduced an improved mechanism for adjusting government pork reserves, with three levels of early-warning indicators. The plan calls for releasing reserves when prices rise excessively and using reserve purchases when prices fall excessively, alongside monitoring and policy coordination.
Reserve releases can add pork to the market and restrain prices, while purchases can support prices during steep declines. The two-way mechanism is intended to smooth price swings rather than signal a sustained change in pork or feed demand.
