Indonesian state fertilizer producer PT Pupuk Indonesia is exploring phosphate and potash mine investments and acquisitions in Belarus, Canada, Algeria and Russia. The company says it has no owned mines and is heavily import-dependent, and it targets a 28% rise in NPK capacity by 2030.
Investments could follow government-to-government or business-to-business routes.
Pursuing upstream phosphate and potash assets would reduce Indonesia's reliance on imports from Canada, Belarus, Russia and Morocco over time, but it is a long-term strategy with no near-term supply change. Feed buyers should note possible future shifts in fertilizer sourcing rather than an immediate price move.
